For all those animal lovers out there they never could have imagined that two of the cutest animals around, the Penguin and the Panda would become a source of terror to those in the online marketing industry. Well the credit (?) goes to that search engine behemoth Google which decided to euphemistically name, the latest updates to their search engine’s algorithms after two cuddlesome creatures. .

For the uninitiated Google search engine algorithms index and rank websites and web pages as per a precise set of parameters that are pre-decided. When Google was designed it was made as a   search engine and was created in a way to give the most updated and precise results. However as is the case with everything else people found a way to manipulate or play the system to their advantage unfairly through the misuse of SEO techniques. This extremely useful system of optimizing a website was corrupted by a few unscrupulous marketers who used methods to unethically influence rankings in their favor.

One of the most oft used techniques were that of inbound link building. These folks had realized the more the back links the higher would be the ranking. As a consequence entire sites were composed of links. The quality and content of the sites were little in relevance and with the outsourcing of sites, most site owners found it more cost effective to have links built at a fraction of the cost of a complete standard website.

So to protect the integrity of search results, engineers at Google began to develop extremely complex algorithms to locate search engine spammers and those who used unethical techniques such as Black Hat SEO techniques to achieve results in their favor. However, all of these manipulations have been curtailed to a major extent with the introduction of the Panda and Penguin updates by Google and lately with the use of the disavow tool. As a result sites that earlier had content of low value were heavily penalized for their content along with those sites that had their links on these sites with a major drop in rankings.

This has resulted in the demand for quality content and no longer can any site pass of low quality content with an overkill of keyword and key phrases all over its site. Some pointers that can be adopted while creating content are:

• Remember the Content has to be drafted keeping visitors in mind and must be of use.
• The emphasis is on originality with it being informative and interesting for the reader. 
• Strictly avoid plagiarism as it will be identified and you will not receive any benefits. 
• It is recommended to always attach authorship to all original content created by you.
